Holy Week in Burgos is much more than a tradition; it is an outpouring of faith, art, and emotion that fills every corner of our city. Now, we want you to be part of this celebration through your unique perspective.

We invite you to take part in our Photography Contest—an opportunity to capture the most emblematic moments of this special celebration. From the solemnity of the processions to the details that bring each brotherhood to life, every image can tell a unique story.

What are we looking for?
Images that reflect the true spirit of Holy Week: the devotion of the brotherhoods, the majesty of the floats, the emotion of the crowd, and the atmosphere that fills the streets of Burgos. We want you to capture those moments that make this tradition unforgettable.

Rules and Regulations

“Holy Week in Burgos”

The Holy Week Board of Burgos announces the 27th Photography Contest “Holy Week in Burgos,” in accordance with the following:

RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. The Holy Week Board of Burgos reserves the right to accept or reject any photographs submitted to the contest.

During all events, celebrations, and processions, participants must conduct themselves appropriately, respectfully, and in accordance with the values of the Holy Week Board of Burgos and its member Brotherhoods and Confraternities. Any behavior that may discredit them or third parties, or hinder the events and processions, will result in exclusion from the contest.

2. The contest is open to anyone who wishes to participate.

3. The theme shall be “Holy Week in the City of Burgos.” Participants may freely choose the moments to capture from the events, celebrations, images, and processions taking place during this year’s Holy Week.

4. Entries may be submitted in two categories:

  1. Color

  2. Black and White
    Participants may compete in one or both categories. Photomontage techniques will not be accepted.

5. A maximum of three photographs per category may be submitted by each participant.

6. To promote Holy Week in Burgos, entries must be submitted via the website (www.semanasantaburgos.com) or on CD-ROM, DVD, or USB. Files must be in TIFF or JPG format, at 300 dpi resolution, and without any type of protection.

7. Files under 10 MB will not be accepted. Photographs taken with mobile phones and/or of lower quality than stated will be rejected. Exhibition prints will be sized 38 × 25 cm.

8. Participants submitting works on CD-ROM, DVD, or USB must send them to:

Submissions must be sent in a sealed envelope, including inside a second sealed envelope containing the completed registration form with the required details, no later than May 31, 2026, which is the submission deadline. The registration form can be downloaded from the official website.

9. The jury will be composed of members of the Holy Week Board of Burgos and professional photographers who are not participants and appointed by the Board. They will jointly assess compliance with all rules. The decision will be final and binding. Any prize may be declared void if the quality of submissions so warrants.

10. Prizes will be awarded based on the overall body of work submitted by each author. However, an individual photograph of outstanding quality may receive a specific award or even win the contest. Diversity and originality in capturing the unique character of Holy Week in Burgos will be especially valued.

11. The following prizes are established:
First Prize: €500
Second Prize: €300
Third Prize: €200
Two Honorable Mentions: €100 each

No participant may receive more than one prize. If selected for several, only the highest-value prize will be awarded.
The overall winner will be a finalist candidate for the official poster of Holy Week in Burgos for the year following this contest.

12. The jury’s decision will be announced during October 2026 and made public through the media, social networks, and the official website of the Holy Week Board of Burgos. Award winners will also be notified in writing or by email.

13. The Holy Week Board of Burgos will organize, at a venue and dates to be determined, a public exhibition of the submitted works and a public award ceremony during the “Pórtico de la Semana Santa 2027,” where prizes will be presented.
If the number of submissions exceeds the exhibition space available, the jury will select the works to be displayed, ensuring that at least one work per participant is exhibited.

14. All photographs submitted will become the property of the Holy Week Board of Burgos, which reserves the free right to use, distribute, or publish them by any means.
Physical media of non-winning works may be collected within one month after the award ceremony held during the Pórtico de la Semana Santa 2027, upon proper identification, at Casa de la Iglesia (C/ Eduardo Martínez del Campo, 7). Otherwise, they will be considered waived and will become the property of the Holy Week Board of Burgos.

15. Participants are responsible before and toward the Holy Week Board of Burgos for any claims by third parties regarding image rights or any other matters arising under Intellectual Property Law and child protection legislation.

16. Participation in this contest implies full acceptance of all these rules and regulations.**
