Santa Águeda Parish hosted a lecture on the 125 years of devotion to Our Lady of Solitude

Santa Águeda Parish hosted on February 21 the lecture entitled “125 Years of Devotion: Iconography of a Feeling. The History of Our Lady of Solitude”, organized by the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Solitude and Saint James as part of the commemorative events marking its anniversary. Lady of Solitude


The session was delivered by Alfonso Díez Ausín, specialist in Intangible Cultural Heritage, who offered a historical overview of the image and explored its devotional, artistic and symbolic significance throughout its 125-year history. During his presentation, the speaker highlighted the heritage value of this Marian devotion and its importance as a sign of identity for generations of members of the brotherhood and the faithful.

The lecture also invited reflection on the cultural and emotional dimension of popular religiosity and intangible heritage within the context of Holy Week in Burgos, emphasizing the role of Our Lady of Solitude as one of the most deeply rooted and beloved devotions in the city.

 

The event was attended by numerous members of the brotherhood and members of the public, who had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the history, meaning and development of this longstanding devotion, in an initiative that reinforces the brotherhood’s commitment to the dissemination and appreciation of its heritage.
